Kai Zhang is a filmmaker and action director based in New York.
Born in Fushun, Liaoning, he spent four years in the U.S. Navy as an Aegis radar technician — and learned to shoot and cut film in uniform. His SWESC Great Lakes command overview carries the DVIDS byline “Video by Seaman Kai Zhang.”
For more than ten years he has designed and performed action for the screen. He founded 777 Raw Street, and action-directed — and starred in — the independent feature Broken Badges. His work has been recognized with Best Action Director & Actor at the New York Urban Expo Action Film Fest.
He photographs the quiet in between: night buses, empty trains, musicians at work.
